Do They Know It’s Christmas? by Stewart Auty

£23.00 incl. zero VAT

The approximate running time of this play is 40 minutes.

Talks have broken down between the Government and the trade unions (sound familiar?), so it looks as though Christmas is going to be cancelled due to widespread strikes! And, what is worse, Father Christmas is a fully paid up member of a trade union and the North Pole will be withdrawing their labour as well! So, it falls to the Spencer family and their neighbours to organise an alternative Christmas.

Description

In this jolly satire on modern life, the Christmas spirit is merged with the Dunkirk spirit as one local community organises their own gift-giving round to compensate for Father Christmas going on strike. There is input from newsreaders, journalists, a union leader and the Prime Minister himself. Reality television doesn’t get better than this! Did you know that newsreaders can hear everything you are saying in your own home? No, neither did we – until we read this play! Plenty of songs move the plot along.

Songs suggested in the script are:

Hey Mr Christmas

Part of the Union

We’re All In This Together

Do They Know It’s Christmas

Let it Snow

Morningtown Ride

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day

As with all our plays, there are full production notes that give advice on scenery, prop and costume-making.

Backing tracks for the songs suggested in this play can be purchased for a modest amount each from www.backingtrax.co.uk or other backing track/karaoke companies in the UK or overseas.
