Joseph! by Stewart Auty
£27.00 incl. zero VAT
The approximate running time of this play is 50 minutes.
Andrew Lloyd Webber may be the master of music but our Stewart Auty is the master of the awful joke! Joseph is, indeed, the well-known Bible story and represents a brilliant opportunity for schools to do all those Egyptian classroom crafts. (Mummified cat anyone?)
Description
Joseph is the favoured son amongst the twelve sons of Jacob – in fact he is so favoured by his father that all the other sons are jealous and they scheme to get rid of him. So they sell Joseph to some passing Ishmaelites and then tell their father that Joseph has been killed by a wild animal, offering his bloodstained coat of many colours as proof. Joseph is sold into slavery in Egypt but becomes free and powerful by interpreting Pharoah’s dreams and saving the Egyptians from famine. Despite the grim storyline, the playwright has managed to make this into a light and cheery play! Unless you happen to be an all-boys school, you will have to dress girls up as some of the brothers, however!
