Dr Dolittle is a very good doctor, but his bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired when he is dealing with his patients. That is because he would much rather be dealing with animals! He desperately wants to understand the animal kingdom and to be able to have conversations with them. With the help of Polynesia the parrot and his translating invention, the Rotalsnart, it looks as though his wish may come true.

Description

This play is a bright and breezy adaptation of Hugh Loftus’ first Dr Dolittle book. The animal kingdom embraces the doctor as a true friend. He helps a crocodile with toothache, a short-sighted horse…and then he is visited by a swallow who tells him about deadly Green Monkey disease in Africa So, off he and his animal friends go, on a perilous sea voyage to cure the monkeys. They encounter a terrible storm at sea, then hostility on land, before the return voyage, where they are attacked by pirates!
